Message:
I was diagnosed with glandular fever
in June 2003. Since then I have suffered from chronic tiredness
on and off. I always seem to have no energy
to do anything. I get tired very easily from the most simple
of tasks. I currently have come down with a chill, very high
temperaute and a severe sore throat. When I get a cold or I
am unwell it seems to effect me a great deal. Is it normal
for me to me suffering from my glandular fever after 3 years?

Fever help services
Well,
unfortunately I hear from many people in a similar situation to
yourself and is the very reason I set up my web site in the first
place. If you read the info on my site, you will see that my
troubles continued on and off for many years . . . and I still am very
aware that if I pushed myself too much that old symptoms may possibly
re-surface. Yes, just picking up the latest bug or cold going around,
is more likely to have a greater effect on you than other people. It is
very frustrating and I know only too well myself what it is
like. I refer to it as post glandular fever syndrome.
I
don’t know if you were just asking me a simple question to
reply to – “is it normal to feel this way 3 years
after glandular fever” or if you were actually interested in
really trying to get to grips with your health and possibly toying with
the idea of pursuing my help, support and advice. If it is
just the question, then I answer that many people do continue to suffer
with bad bouts after glandular fever years afterwards, with an
underlying tiredness and never feeling 100% since glandular fever.
Whether it is normal or not, I am not sure. I think a lot of
people do recover quite well after glandular fever and never have any
more troubles, however there are many people who do continue to be
troubled. Interestingly enough, doctors do seem to be changing their
mind about the on-going problems experienced with with
glandular fever. You remember Ian Thorpe, the Australian
Olympic swimming champion who won so many races in Sydney 2000. Well he
hasn't competed for over a year due to glandular fever and I notice in
press releases on the internet that consultants have warned him that it
could stay with him for life. Being a swimmer of course the chance of
him over-taxing his immune system is very high so you can see the
possible problems he may come up against even when he
feels totally fit again.Certainly if you are interested in working with
me to try and do everything we can to entice your body to make some
good improvements, then I would be happy to help - in fact I would be
extremely keen to help as I really do believe that my advice
and support could really make a difference to your health in a positive
way. this of course can have a big impact on the quality of your life.
What I would usually propose to do in cases similar to your own is
begin by trying to get you going on a really good energising and
supportive eating and nutrition programme, to see if we can soothe
those bodily systems that do get a knocking after glandular fever, and
go from there. My help is not a miracle cure but aims to get the
foundations in place, to help you to manage your health as effectively
as you can.
Do
hope I can help . . . certainly I believe you must not just continue,
hoping it will go away. Doing everything you can to entice your body to
re-balance itself is extremely important. It can be quite a task, but
well worth it in the long term.

About 1 month ago I
had a bout of what was
diagnosed as sinusitis - I have had this many times before, usually
when I am tired or stressed. It has usually been helped by
antibiotics. This did not clear and I then developed what was
diagnosed as tonsilitis and given more antibiotics. After
another week this did not clear and so I was given a blood test which
diagnosed glandular fever. I am 16 and in the middle for my
AS year. I have now been off school for 4 weeks. I
seem to have recovered from throat etc but remain very tired and still
ache a lot.
-
Diagnosed Feb 05
but they think i might
actually had first bout the Christmas before...same symptoms of septic
throat, sweats and shivers, no energy even to sit up but no blood test
done so not confirmed. Have ongoing bouts fatigue which come with pain
in spleen area, aching legs, off work for short spells, get very low
which is very unlike me.

question to you would be is there any thing, that i might be lacking(i
know there is)?Vitamin/mineral,or any particular helpfull food? You see
im a trained nutritionist, but its hard to treat yourself. And you having
alot of experience in this particular field,is there any general things
patients have in common, things that might work or need correcting(dont

will give me some tips anyway. This time of year is the worst as
well, the cold and the damp. Thanks for reading.

jawline, fatigue, pain under rib on left side, sore groin area and

swollen glands under jawline and a red throat with one tonsil still

the time and not sleeping well. My mind is foggy and i find it very
hard to concentrate. Even watching a movie is a battle sometimes, cant
be bothered concentrating, just want to sleep. Recently have suffered a
bad ear infection with this ear feeling full and a wet sensation. I
feel very frustrated with the illness.

regularly for about a year after getting over the virus.
since then my energy levels have deteriorated greatly. i used
to take dance lessons eveyday but i have cut it down and to just one

behalf just trying to be difficult but i would like to do more classes

just email me with some gneral information that could help my
problem. my grades and ability to concentrate for long
periods of time have also deteriorated.

I
was diagnosed as having glandular fever in 1993when I was 17 and just
about to my A Levels. Up until then I was very active with Sports and I
genrally did well at school. The glandular fever completely wiped me
out for about a year, I still went through my exams but my results were
atrocious. At the time I could only just manage to stay awake in school
but as soon as I got home I was asleep on the couch. when my family
tried to wake me for my evening meal I struggled to get up for it but
when I did I was in such a bad mood due to tiredness.Reading your web
site has already comforted me as I have spent the last few years never
feeling completely healthy, fit or switched on. I can't remember having
a day where I felt 100% for the entire day although I do have phases
thorugh the day where I actually feel good. It's these phases that have
made me think that I should feel like that all of the time.Although I
never feel 100% for an entire day, generally I can live with the
feeling but once every so often - and there doesn't seem to be a
pattern to it - I feel absolutley awful, my limbs feel like lead
weights, my concentration dissapears completely, my eyes become heavy
and blurred although I don't feel that I need to sleep. When I had the
the glandular fever it stayed in my system for a long time, and I
continued to see the doctor once the virus was no longer traceable
becuase of my general tiredness. Nothing conclusive ever came of seeing
the doctor so the appointments tailed off but as I say I don't feel
like I have ever recovered. I could visit a doctor now but I don't feel
that I will be taken particulalry seriously as my main complaint is
lack of concentration and tiredness which I am sure that many people
suffer from on a daily basis, I do however feel that I am worse than
most people.I would very much like to hear your opinions as I am as yet
unconvinced that I actually have a problam as I think I have just
accepted that this is the way I feel. If there is something you could
do to help me I would be very appreciative.I look forward to hearing
from you.

Help for Glandular
Fever sufferers is
poor!! My daughter was diagnosed in 2002 leading upto her
GCSE exams. She may well of had it longer but we only
considered this after she had been diagnosed, we just assumed she was a
typical lazy teenager who loved her bed. She struggled to
study and do her exams but managed. She started college but the hours
and traveling distance proved too much so she took a job at a local
nursery in 2004, this has proved also very tough for most of the time
struggling with the shifts 8/9am - 6pm consequently now only does 4
days instead of 5. But they dont understand no one
does. As for a social life, if she manages one night out over
the weekend the rest of it she spends in bed, sleeping, preparing for
the next weeks work. Basically her immune system is non-existant so any
virus going around we can always bet that she will get it, but then it
leads to other things, cold sores, mouth ulcers. Sorry this
was supposed to be brief? So this evening we are going
together to the doctors to demand some help for her? Its been
a long 4 years and nothing seems to be improving? So possibly we should
consider food allergies as well? Any advice would be
appreciated.
- Diagnosed in 2000 during
my GCSE exams, was very tired all the time and depressed, spent a good
2 weeks in bed asleep most of the time, aching joints and bones, loss
of weight, not feeling hungry. Now I have my apetite back, I eat well
currently I have had a cold this is the 7th week, it was very bad to
start putting me in bed for 4 days, now feeling tired again and still
have sore cheekbones and gums and a tickly cough and runny/blocked nose
